Not only is Callum Ramm our newest recruit in our Scotland office as a recruitment resourcer but ORB is also sponsoring him in his passion of rugby where he currently plays semi-professionally for the Boroughmuir Bears. Here, we find more about Callum.
Tell us a bit about your previous education/career history?
My previous work experience has included coaching rugby / multi sports at schools and rugby clubs around Edinburgh. I have also worked in various bars and coffee shops and loved the interactions and conversations with people. I've always enjoyed the customer service side of those jobs. Whilst in Australia I worked for a Farm and Fencing company selling various farm equipment, educating farmers on what products they might need for different jobs, Quoting bundles for farmers projects and general store management.
How is your new role at ORB going?
Great! I really like helping people and learning new skills and I’m most excited about the connections and relationships I’m creating with candidates. Hopefully helping them into their desired job/field. The fact there is potential to progress in the job as well is massive for me. I’m always looking to better myself and push myself to achieve the most I can.
Tell us when and why you first got into playing rugby
I started playing rugby around the first year of high school. I was terrible at football so tried rugby, and nudged on by my parents, I fell in love with it and didn’t look back.
What is it that you love so much about the sport?
The community that rugby provides, the friendships made and places you get to go. Rugby has taken me to Australia, Dubai, Amsterdam. Also, there are not many sports where you go to battle for 80 minutes then shake hands and share a pint after it all. It’s pretty special.
What do you enjoy most about being a Bear and why?
Mum and Dad took me to Boroughmuir as a young lad and that’s where I played a lot of my youth rugby. You could say it’s where I was shaped as a player so the chance to play for the club again is massive for me.
Rugby wise, what’s your main focus this season and beyond?
Rugby is going really well now. We’re doing well in the league and have potential to make the final. For me it’s just about playing the best I can every game and doing my best for the team.
What are your hopes and dreams for your future in the sport?
For me, enjoying playing is a must. Hopefully also at the highest level I can but if it’s Super Six, Scotland sevens or a pub team I must be enjoying it. Hopefully I can manage to stay at semi pro level if not more.
How helpful is getting the rugby sponsorship from ORB to you?
Personally, it’s massive as it means I am getting all the support I can to develop and grow and can now just concentrate on playing rugby and not worry about finances and other things. It’s also great to know they have faith in me!
ORB also support the Bears generally by helping new players coming to the club look for work and for general support and advice with CVs and even for current players that might want a career change. Having the support of Orb makes that process a lot simpler and easier.
Tell us an interesting fact others may not know about you!
I can do card magic and used to perform it at weddings when I was younger….. I know!
