Committed to community: why ORB became a Doncaster Chamber patron

Stewart Olsen, Group CEO of ORB Recruitment, explains why a longstanding connection with the local community inspired the company to take a more active role.

I am a Doncaster person through and through – and very proud of it. I was born and bred in Doncaster and now live here with my family.

I set up ORB here in my hometown and now employ lots of people from the local area. That brings me a great sense of satisfaction and pride.

As a company, we feel we have a responsibility to support our local community. We recently pledged £2,500 to support Cast’s The Big Give Christmas Challenge, for example. The campaign aims to promote creative work with Doncaster’s deaf artists and young people.

Earlier this year, we renewed our commitment to local football club FC Doncaster, extending a deal to sponsor them. We have also joined forces with Castleford Tigers rugby league club and Castleford Tigers Foundation to become their official recruitment partner until the end of the 2023 season.

And we have an ongoing 100Club silver partnership with Club Doncaster at Doncaster Rovers.

We also take our responsibility for the wellbeing of our staff seriously. This year we pledged to pay all staff – in Doncaster and Scotland – an extra £150 a month to support them during the cost-of-living crisis.

ORB is on a rapid growth trajectory and these are exciting times for the company. Last year, we opened our Scotland office in Edinburgh and now have a UK-wide presence. But our HQ remains in Doncaster and we see great promise and opportunity here.

After being granted city status as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Doncaster is now officially a city which is a massive boost for the local economy.

Doncaster has always had a very tight, connected business community who support each other and city status adds another element for organisations here.

As an organisation, we wanted to become even more closely involved with the fantastic work Doncaster Chamber does. Doncaster Chamber is an invaluable network to be part of and becoming a patron was the right next step for our business.

By becoming a patron, ORB has demonstrated a commitment to advancing our relationship with Doncaster Chamber. It is also a recognition we are a key anchor business and employer within Doncaster.

We want to get even more involved in the local business community, contribute to the borough’s growth and help the city and region thrive.

We are looking forward to offering support to other local businesses and also the many benefits being a patron will bring to ORB.

The journey of our organisation began in Doncaster and we are proud this wonderful city will play a big part in our exciting future.
