Operations Manager

ORB Recruitment have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Operations Manager to join our clients team. Our client is a market leader in the leasing and sales of fleet services and work across Canada and Europe.

Role: The successful Operations Manager will be responsible for the following tasks.

  • Oversee the overall workshop operations, ensuring smooth workflow and efficient resource allocation.
  • Being the go-to person for workshop customers. Giving regular updates and discussing job progress with customers.
  • Working with new and existing customers to produce workshop quotations for repairs.
  • Producing technical work instructions for workshop staff, ensuring all customer requirements and final expectations are included.
  • Co-Ordinate with internal stakeholders, such as workshop supervisors and other staff to prioritise workshop tasks and resolve issues promptly.
  • Monitor and manage the workshop budget, controlling costs and optimising expenditure. Ensuring all jobs are invoiced in a timely manner and meeting the required profits. Handling any pricing or cost queries swiftly.
  • Assisting with the ordering, sales, import, pre-delivery work and aftersales of LAG and Cappellotto tankers (which WTS have UK distribution agreements with).
  • Updating WTS/TIP systems with job progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Enforce compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and company policies. Conduct regular inspections and audits to maintain a safe and well-organised workshop environment. Ensure proper documentation of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction, implementing best practices and innovative solutions.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes affecting HGV maintenance, and implement relevant updates.
  • Recruitment of new staff
  • Ensure accurate build-up of cost on jobs and timely invoicing of each job.
  • Managing the costs, revenue and profits of the business and regularly analysing jobs to look for areas of cost reduction or increasing revenue opportunities.
  • Ensuring the monthly and annual revenue and profit targets are met as a minimum requirement.
  • Working with the WTS accountant, finance team and Directors to compile reports using WTS systems to analyse data to ensure accurate month end financial reporting. Wherever possible looking or opportunities to reduce cost and increase profits.
  • Responsible for the health and safety of all people on site at WTS and ensuring the upkeep of all property and equipment.
  • Ensure the safety of all staff, contractors and visitors on site at WTS through upkeep of company policies and procedures, as well as direct health and safety support such as chairing safety meetings and investigating all accident and near miss reports.
  • Ensuring all training is completed as required, exploring new options for training to increase site safety.
  • Ensure all site equipment is maintained as required and all compliance events required are met.
  • Lead any necessary site improvements, ensuring all work is completed to satisfactory standards and in the most cost effective way.

Requirements: To be considered for this role candidates will need to show the following.

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in workshop management within a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) environment. Preferably with a road tanker background.
  • In-depth knowledge of HGV maintenance and repair procedures
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills across a range of departments, including technical/workshops.
  • P&L experience & able to carry out detailed analysis
  • Experienced and confident working with and leading teams in all health and safety & property matters.
  • Good IT skills, with a strong understanding of MS packages including Excel.
  • Ability to understand and deliver against profit and loss targets
  • Good people recruitment and development experience
